On my drive from Saigon to our homestay in Ke Ga I pass a large area of rubber plantations. On this occaision a herd of cows were grazing with the leader keeping a close eye one me. The rubber sap is collected in buckets much like maple syrup in Vermont.
This old residential apartment complex has become a bit of a photographer’s check-in location in Saigon’s Chinatown. An iconic Chinese-Vietnamese (Hoa) building that captures a nostalgic and cinematic vision of the Saigon of days past.
After you come over the Hai Van Pass from Da Nang you arrive in Lang Co. The beach is to the east and nn the other side of the main road is the back bay where oysters are raised and you’ll find scenes like this.
There is a small walkway that leads along the mountains between Meo Vac and Dong Van called The Skywalk. A feature of it is a “pride rock” accessed by a steep trail as seen in this photo. Riding the Skywalk at dawn is something I will always remember.
Tan Dinh Church in Saigon, aka The Pink Church, has become an Instagram favorite. In the afternoon the sun hits the angel in one of the spires just right.
Hanoi has many temples. Sometimes it’s the simplest of scenes that makes a memorable image.
Duong Long is one of the more impressive set of Cham towers located in Quy Nhon. There are many towers in Quy Nhon here is a video of some of them:
In Ke Ga, like many coastal fishing villages, there is a daily morning fish market. The round coracles come in from the larger boats and the ladies purchase and carry the fish to market.
Cam Lap peninsula juts out into the Cam Ranh Bay. A bridge accessed bit of land there is a single road that covers the area providing wonderful views.
Motorcyclists are dwarfed by the terraced fields of rice and corn. This is a relatively unknown area of Mu Cang Chai further up the mountain south of the Lao Chai Viewpoint.
A hostess in a red dress blends in seamlessly with the red lanterns in Saigon’s Japan Town. The area originally catered to Japanese businessmen visiting Saigon but now is a more general entertainment and dining area.
In Tu Le, the most popular rice crop is a sticky rice. Cốm Tú Lệ is harvested to make cốm which is a green flaky young sticky rice. You will see it sold throughout the valley and served in most restaurants.
A mother entertains her son and feeds the pigeons. Cho Lon (Chinatown) is a great area for street photography.
Mui Ne has a number of beach clubs at the water’s edge. This coastal resort is famous for its sand dunes and with a new highway just over 4 hours from Saigon.
